Sachin Tendulkar compiled a mountain of runs for almost a quarter of a century and reached cricket's dizzying heights by defying a burden of expectation that would have crushed lesser mortals. Whenever Tendulkar came to the crease, India's billion-plus population made secret deals with gods, froze where they were, clutched lucky charms and indulged in all sorts of superstitions. And the sport's most prolific run-accumulator created plenty of those heart-in-mouth moments in his 24 years in international cricket.

"When I was a kid, I just dreamt about playing at Roland Garros, at Wimbledon, professional tournaments. I am no different than many kids. My motivation and passion to try to reach that dream was the key to our success. "We worked hard with motivation. Kids can do it, if I did it," the Spanish legend said ahead of the opening IPTL match. "The only thing I can advise is that try to have right people around you, who know about the sport, who really support you and try to help you reach your best level, practice everyday with motivation and passion. "I had good people around me. Without (coach and uncle) Tony, nothing was possible. I am lucky that someone from my family is my coach forever. We work hard. "We work with passion, with love for what we are doing and just trying to do right things to improve every year. That's the only secret."

Euro 2016: Focus on England, not transfers, Hodgson tells players

England manager Roy Hodgson has told his squad to forget about potential club transfers and focus on their Euro 2016 campaign. With Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy the subject of a bid from Arsenal, according to British media, Hodgson has reportedly banned agents from the team hotel in Chantilly, though he is more concerned with players concentrating on the job at hand. England open their Group B campaign against Russia on Saturday before facing Wales and Slovakia. "Whether they (agents) come to the hotel or not is a moot point," he was quoted as saying on The Independent website. "They will be talking to the players face to face, on the phone or via Skype or Facebook, who the hell knows? "But one thing this group of players know and have accepted is that when you are on England duty, you are on England duty. Hodgson added that if a player decided to move clubs while on England duty he would not be allowed to leave to undertake a medical. "It is not a question of you sorting out your future, or diving off for medicals," he said.

The club's three-year barren run has coincided with the retirement of manager Alex Ferguson, who led the club to 13 Premier League title, five FA Cup and two Champions Leagues during his 26 years at the helm. "This club is going to be fighting for titles," Mata told the BBC.
